Why Colon Hydrotherapy?

As a detox specialist, I am often asked the question, “What do you think of colonics?” In the past my response was, “I am not sure,” or “An enema should be good enough.” Today, however, my response is much different as I have seen first-hand the benefits of colon hydrotherapy that one can NOT get from doing enemas alone. But, even after someone becomes educated about the benefits, there are obstacles to committing to make the first step. First I want to address the “yuk” factor. Most people want to be private about their own bowel movements! I, in particular, like to be private, so I understand this concern. Another factor is anxiety; almost every new client who comes feels a bit self-conscious. The colon hydrotherapy experience is unfamiliar. This usually goes away after the first 5 minutes into the session, which lasts about 35 minutes. Let’s face it- it feels good to poop! So 35 minutes to fully eliminate waste matter really makes for a refreshing experience. So many people feel lighter and energized after receiving a colon hydrotherapy session. At Nourishing Journey we have couples come in, women preparing for their weddings, or people who just want to feel better and try it out. I don’t want to forget to mention the folks who need help being regular or who are dealing with digestive issues like leaky gut syndrome or bloating.

What I have come to understand about the colon is it is like an accordion–as in polka music. This may help you to imagine how something about 5 ft. long could fit into a 100 lb. adult–the design is brilliant! The small folds of the colon act like pockets, where healthy and unhealthy microbes can gather and populate. Meanwhile, as the stomach muscles play the accordion the stool and fiber pass through the center of the colon. Daily waste, aided by the folds contracting and expanding and sometimes tooting, is passed down to the end of the tube to be eliminated. So, can you see how old waste might linger in the folds and make friends with the microbes in the pockets? When the water from a colonic comes in, it swooshes around these pockets to flush out what the passing fiber in the colon doesn’t reach. This is a simplified description but I hope it helps you understand why irrigation of the colon is sooo beneficial, and while doing an enema is good for home care, it is not meant to replace colon hydrotherapy. By the way, for those of you who are squeamish about doing an enema, just come in for a colonic and you will get a deluxe treatment and leave the office lighter and refreshed-it’s easy!
